Role Description

The Portfolio Manager is accountable for:

  • Planning, and reporting of all work demand such as customer and internal projects and portfolios.
  • Managing an optimised programme for the Brno Delivery function.
  • Liaison with of a range of key stakeholders from Brno and other FNZ facilities.
  • Developing professional portfolio and project management standards and ensuring these are implemented and maintained.
  • Creating a resource plan showing appropriately skilled resources distributed across all work demand.
  • Meeting portfolio and project performance targets and following compliance processes.
  • Effective supplier relationship management and partnership working where projects are delivered jointly or project delivery is outsourced.

Leadership

  • Lead creation and implementation of IT portfolios for a minimum 12 month forward planning period ensuring delivery of agreed projects to maximum benefit.
  • Model professional project delivery performance and behaviors ensuring that IT Delivery team is the 1st choice resource for stakeholders sponsoring projects.
  • Actively propose and drive agreed new ways of working to meet changing business needs and deliver value for money.
  • Set realistic but challenging performance standards to help drive improved performance and continuous improvement.

Project Delivery

  • Ensure that entire project lifecycle delivery and portfolio management is carried out in accordance with agreed standards.
  • Ensure that IT projects delivered enable sponsors enable to realise agreed benefits.
  • Ensure appropriate governance is in place for all projects so that accountabilities and responsibilities are clear.
  • Work with the IT Delivery management team to introduce new processes and practices to develop and improve project delivery performance across all portfolios.

Team Performance

  • Ensure that staff appraisal, staff development and regular feedback to direct reports takes place and actions and any performance processes are followed through.
  • Agree learning and development requirements for team to maximise career development and improve performance.
  • Support creation of a wider high performance culture by helping set and managing KPIs for the team.
  • Be accountable for effective implementation of changes within the team.
  • Adhere to statutory obligations in decision making and management of resources (e.g. Working Time Directive).
  • Support creation a safe working environment for team.

Stakeholder/Supplier Management

  • Actively engage with stakeholders, ensuring appropriate governance is in place.  
  • Escalate issues and communicate in a timely way.
  • Understand and be attuned to the environment in which stakeholders and suppliers are operating.
  • Engage in formulating accurate resource requirements with stakeholders and suppliers early in the shaping/design phase of a project or assignment and ongoing.
  • Be adept and sensitive in interpretation and resolution of commercial and contractual issues.

Business Planning & Key Metrics

  • Work with the sponsor to ensure project delivery budgets and timescales are realistic.
  • Manage change in IT portfolio, project, programme direction, scope, benefits, costs, and timing while minimising financial risks and business impacts.
  • Ensure cost recovery targets are met on projects.
  • Accurately capture and manage IT portfolio, programme and project risks.

Building Professional Project Capability

  • Work with stakeholders to prioritise & schedule appropriate resources on projects by building awareness of the bigger picture and managing the demand pipeline, facilitating forward planning.
  • Maintain awareness of high level developments in IT and communications technology and use this knowledge to identify business opportunities and develop self and team.
  • Promote a professional project management culture and high quality project planning principles to ensure that projects are delivered to best industry practice.
  • Ensure resources are fit for purpose by developing and managing the performance of a diverse, multi-site team.
  • Identifies requirements and forward plans training to meet the changing needs of the organisation
  • Responsible for setting and measuring the professional governance within portfolio.
  • Influencing the resource allocation to project assignments to ensure project success in order to enhance brand reputation.
  • Helps set strategic priorities within financial / technology strategy constraints.

Experience Required

Knowledge & Experience

  • Significant experience and strong delivery record in enterprise IT technology portfolio and project management and associated resource management.
  • Experience of managing and developing diverse project enterprise technology project management teams with different skills sets and levels of experience.
  • Proven practical experience and qualification in an accepted project management methodology.
  • Significant experience of delivering projects in partnership with third party suppliers.
  • Good knowledge of enterprise IT industry technology trends and comfortable with technical detail/concepts.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, spoken and presentation), ability to grasp technical briefs quickly, draw out information from technically focused resources and translate technical to business as needed.
  • Well organised and self-disciplined and motivated.
  • Commercially astute.
  • Experience of enterprise IT portfolio and project/programme delivery.

Qualifications

  • High quality education – degree qualified.
  • Prince II or equivalent accreditation to Practitioner level or equivalent.
  • Desirable – ITIL foundation
  • Agile - experience desirable
  • Desirable – Managing Successful Programmes to Practitioner level.
