  • Role Description

    The Software Architect role at FNZ has overall responsibility for the software design and technology across all FNZ platforms. They will also be responsible for setting the roadmap for future development and enhancements.

    The role will work within a team of technical architects that have overall responsibility for the future development of all of FNZ’s core application. They are responsible for ensuring that the application meets the functional and non-functional requirements of our clients and FNZ.

    The role will work closely with the Business Architecture team and Infrastructure to ensure technical solutions and decisions made are in-line with the wider business objectives. They will work very closely with the development team to ensure there is a clear understanding of, and all future build adheres to, the overall technical roadmap and application design strategy.

    The role requires both excellent technical abilities and communication skills. They will be responsible for documenting the roadmap, development standards and proposals for new initiatives. Software Architects are also expected to be ‘hands-on’ when required to help solve technical problems or design particularly sensitive areas of the system.

    The role is based in the A/NZ region and sits within the Technical Architecture team which is part of Group Technology.




    • Work within the architecture team to set the technical roadmap and strategy for FNZ application software and technology
    • Assess new technologies and techniques and make proposal for adoption
    • Work with developers and project teams to create and review technical designs for all medium-large build items, providing ultimate sign-off prior to build commencement
    • Work with the project teams and clients to define technical specifications for any sufficiently complex new build, particularly when 3rd party integration is involved
    • Work on proof of concepts for new technologies or software design to ensure major issues and assumptions are worked through and understood/resolved prior to adoption from development community
    • Provide direction and design oversight for all core application changes, ensuring reusability, interoperability and stability of all core code
    • Implement strict unit testing standards and processes. Define and actively manage progress against unit test coverage targets
    • Gather, analyse code metrics (particularly on legacy code) and provide solutions and a system for measuring the benefit of improving code quality.

    Experience Required

    • Minimum of 3 years work experience at FNZ in a technical role or minimum of 3 years working elsewhere in a technical architecture type role
    • An in depth understanding of systems previously worked with including the underpinning technology, current code structure and business concepts
    • A demonstrated passion for improving code quality, code reusability, and scalability of systems
    • Solid knowledge and interest in wider technology concepts and industry tools and standards
    • Experience working with Microsoft development technologies including: .NET, SQL, MVC/ASP, C#/VB
    • Excellent work ethic and passion for excellence
    • Ability to work well within a team, with the client, and with the project teams and strong ability to influence key decisions regarding technology and software
    • Strong communication and problem solving skills
    • Confident and able to table initiative in a client-and delivery-focused environment
    • Good knowledge of the software development lifecycle in an agile environment
